One area in the development of librarianship that needs attention is that of school libraries. School libraries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries are at various stages of development; some countries have well-established and managed school libraries, others have very basic only.

With the establishment of the ASEAN Community 2015 and the ASEAN Free Trade Agreement and many other developments in the region, it is important that school libraries be given attention, for they represent the base for the development of an information literate citizenry.

With this in mind,  in 2015 the School Library Committee of the Thai Library Association, Department of Library & Information Science, Srinakharinwirot University, Bangkok and the International Association of School Librarianship (IASL) have had a Workshop on the Development of School Libraries in the ASEAN Countries in Bangkok as a pre-conference activity preceding the CONSAL XVI (Conference of South ASEAN Librarians) meeting.

The participants shared ideas and experiences drawn from best practices and lessons learned in the development of school libraries  which were shown in their country reports.

The 2nd workshop was held at Universitas Indonesia and was a successful one. The 3rd workshop will be organized by Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and will be held at the Ancasa Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. For more information feel free to visit the WEBSITE.

About A-liep 2019

A-LIEP is an annual program that is the best platform for researchers around the world to discuss, share knowledge and debate on the discovery of new technologies in the Asia-Pacific industry such as automation, Internet-of-Things (IoT), analysis and big data, system integration, robotic, cloud robots and simulation, as well as technological developments and advances in this modern era.

The first A-LIEP conference began in Singapore in 2006, followed by the second conference in 2007 in Taiwan and held subsequently in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017 in various countries around Asia-Pacific.  Since then, various topics have been discussed in the conferences relating to the scope of Library Science and Information Science.

Faculty of Information Management (FIM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia sees this as a golden opportunity to be captured and valued.  Hence, the Faculty aspires to host the 9th A-LIEP conference for the second time to be held in Sunway Putra Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in this upcoming 4 - 7 November 2019.

The A-LIEP 2019 is expected to be attended by academics, researchers, scientists and individuals interested in the field of Library Science and Information Science, where it has a broad scope across international boundaries that provides a great understanding and impact on education, networking, exchange ideas and knowledge sharing through paper presentations, panel discussions, workshops and exhibitions.
